Melodies of today, sounds of yore… How would Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” have sounded in 1350? What if a XVth century French minstrel had written Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of you”? These questions are what founded Courseval, the first ever “Bardcore” (bard like) music band.

The Chartres Cathedral is home to a unique collection of 322 illustrations of musical instruments from the period of the XII^th to the XVI^th century, over fifty of which are featured as reconstructions on this stand for you to see and hear.

Lady Nadia exhibits her works of basketry, woven with home-grown wicker and inspired by Normandy landscapes.

The Middle Ages saw the arrival of many windmills in the Bayeux countryside. Some milled wheat and flour, others were used to produce blue dye from woad leaves. Today only turrets or shallow ruins remain of these winged giants, but some used to hold puzzling turquois mills (mills with rotating post) that take us back to the mysterious origins of this fascinating “machine architecture”.

Featuring a six-meter working trebuchet. Spectators of all ages will watch knights battle and chose a victor. But since life is not all war, they will also be given a closer look at blacksmithing and printing, and offered music and games.

Bandit (Coquillard) and Fat-foot (Pied-gras) take directions from the audience to work various war machines. This live-firing exercise showcases the ingenuity of medieval inventors and the abilities of the machines they built.

Exhibition of a 1/72 scale model of Bayeux Castle from east to west in the 13^th century, a castle mound and its enclosure (fortification from 10^th to 12^th centuries), and a model of the castle of Osaka in Japan. A display of intricate craftsmanship!

Composting is easy and just good sense. It’s one of the oldest ways we know of returning our food scraps back to the earth. In recognition of this, SEROC (the household waste processing and recycling public system for West Calvados) presents another version of the famous Bayeux tapestry, with a twist, to promote local composting initiatives.

A partner from SEROC will take you through this educational device (only on Saturday).
