Departure from Place Saint-Patrice to reach the city hall
The town of Bayeux proudly presents one of just a handful of grand parades of its type in France. For this 39th edition, the primary element of the festivities will be air, and spectators will be able to see, hear and admire countless stilt-walkers, acrobats, men-at-arms, journeymen, craftsmen, peasants and of course music and rhythms… Attending the parade will be your only chance of admiring the Phoenix, a one-of-a-kind giant puppet presented by the Compagnie Youplaboum. With more than 500 participants – groups, performers, street performers, clubs – the grand parade is an unmissable event, full of spectacle, magic, and appealing to everyone

The Middle Ages saw the arrival of many windmills in the Bayeux countryside. Some milled wheat and flour, others were used to produce blue dye from woad leaves. Today only turrets or shallow ruins remain of these winged giants, but some used to hold puzzling turquois mills (mills with rotating post) that take us back to the mysterious origins of this fascinating “machine architecture”.

Composting is easy and just good sense. It’s one of the oldest ways we know of returning our food scraps back to the earth. In recognition of this, SEROC (the household waste processing and recycling public system for West Calvados) presents another version of the famous Bayeux tapestry, with a twist, to promote local composting initiatives.
A partner from SEROC will take you through this educational device (only on Saturday).
